Servicing Newlt Purchase Used Is250

Recommended Posts

i rang the dealer my car originally came from, and its $650 for 30k/24 months

so

i reckon there wont be much difference accross the dealerships.

i've notice there still some knocking/ and a bit of vibrating sound from the front passanger side(i reckon-as i am not sure which part causing that sound-but surely from front) everytime i drove over the bumpy road/ joit part of the the road surface, and mine one is june 06 built, is this the famous rattle problem that most is250 owner had?

i certainly will take my car to service department to try to sort this problem

when mine was in getting the cams fixed they also fixed a rattle in the dash which i didn't even know about, but they said they picked up on it and fixed it anyway!

650 is a lot but remember you also get a loan car as well as a pickup, plus you don't have to pay for the petrol you use in the loan car so i think if you factor that in it's not that much. i've heard of honda services costing just as much and you definitely don't get a loan car! think about how much time and money you save with the loan car service! plus you don't have to wait around all day! they'll just call you when its done and deliver it back to you, oh yeah.... don't forget about the clean car u get back as well! loan car & a clean car :-)

i agree with you

$650 is a lot of money, but considering what you get, its certainly one of the best in the market. compared to BMW or Merc, i reckon they cost more than that, not sure, as i never had one.

yeah you right, for honda, from my memory they cost around $4-500 as i am an ex one of the big honda dealer staff.

but you dont get any loaner,

you can but you get charged more for it and certainly there is no pick up and droping for your car

I'm most concern about the quality of the service and whether things gets done or not.

I think i might just bight the bullet this time and get it done at the dealers, my next on after that might be somewhere else.

well i assume if you concern about, the quality of service then you should always service your car to dealer, as they have the appropriate equipment, and of course lexus must set a high standard for all of their dealers.

it is cost a bit more, but you know that you are dealing with the people that know most about their product.

unless if you know someone, a good mechanic you really know and you can trust,

but again, dealer service dept only look after one brand which is their own brand, they deal more with it and hence they will have more knowledge about what they are facing.

You cannot say even at th best of places that when you drop your car off that they are doing what they are suppose to do. You are not there so you cannot guarantee what needs to be done gets done. Obviously there are honest and dishonest people other there being a corporate dealer, that doesn't exempt them from not doing the right things.

This is one of the cons of getting your car serviced without being there.

I know i'm being paranoid to some, but to me i'm been real.

i agree with lex666, and in the off chance that something should go wrong with the car, they can't shift the blame anywhere else.

you'd be surprised how many times this happens when you service it elsewhere. the mechanic will blame the car, the dealer will blame the mechanic and poor you get stuck in the middle. this is from personal experience and it is mercedes that i had problems with so not like i was dealing with a cheap brand!

but at the end of the day its up to you which way you go and we're all just here to offer our opinions!

Something else to consider before you go non-Lexus service, prior to buying my car new, I had a broker out there searching for used IS's for me. He would not even consider a car that had been serviced or repaired by a non-Lexus Mechanic. What I understand, some of you guys that have had the Mercs and Bmw's before might agree, it definately has some bearing on resale come that time. That might not bother you, but just thought I would mention it!! That LEXUS Stamp always looks good in the Log book!!

thats actually correct, dealer serviced cars always retain a slightly higher resale, which is always a good thing come time to trade up!

At mercedes service A is $450 and service B $750. They also provide a loan car but you have to drop your car in and pick up their car. When I had finance on the car they always seemed to give nice E300, ML500, S class, I even got an C32 AMG 2nd hand one once. As soon as I paid off the debt in full, I noticed they would give crappy A and B class base models and suddenly went over the car with a fine tooth comb and made you sign a waiver with a $2000 excess if any damage occured.

Never got any complimentary services with merc, the warranty is only 3 yrs, and they did a token wash.

Sound like lexus do a better deal...well find out when my 1st service is due in 14000km

But where can you go and get your car services where you can stand there looking over the mechanics shoulder? I know for one I would be more paranoid taking it to your local Ultra Tune or whatever than taking it to Lexus. What's the worst that can happen at Lexus, if something is not done correctly you ring them and they fix it and repair everything.

You take your car somewhere else and like other people have said, if something is wrong, the mechanic will make up some excuse, offer to fix it but he will probably stuff something else up. In the end you will have no choice but to take it back to Lexus and pay even more to get it fixed.

I don't know if you know but the people that you book your car for service are not the people that work on your car. The people that work on your car are the mechanics and they can be anyone. True that the dealer's mechanics are more specialising in their cars but that is not the point. The point is whether they are doing it genuinely or not. If you are not there to see, then you cannot say they are. I would go as far as to say even the manager in charge of the actual servicing might not know what gets done. I'm not saying not to take it back to the dealers, neither am i saying elsewhere is better. All i'm saying is that the dealers charge alot for servicings ( all of them do) and it would be good if they let us see what gets done, i don't mind paying for the service (loosely speaking) so longs as i get what i paid for. Unfortunately unless you are there or have a friend that works there that you can trust, there is no telling what gets done or not done.

I kinda of wondered how they could service the cars wearing nice white shirts and ties... thanks for clearing that up for me...

at Westpoint Star mercedes wherei get my other car serviced they have a large window in the tea/coffee room where you can watch them do the services if you feel like it. Even the mechanics wearing a blue uniform are spotless. Never seen such a clean mechanic shop.

At lexus...their service place is under the shop, and seems off access to customers like they are hiding something.

In some cases you can feel the difference after the service but with the lexus becos it's so smooth and quiet you virtually won't be able to tell what has been done or not. Not trying to discredit anyone here, but i fell for what we paid for the car and servicings, we should be able to stick around and watch. I'll try and request this.
