  1. GReddy make 1 also. This is what I have in my car. Same concept as ApexĂ, you will have to take the hotwire out of the original AFM and put into aftermarket 1. I have a Trust/Airnx foam pod filter. Very good with high flow. Can recommend 1 of these pod filters :) Corey
  2. Hey guys, I basically have a whole engine for sale, in parts. -Full set of pistons with pins -Air conditioning pump -starter -full wiring loom for tiptronic altezza with ECU. -Head -Inlet manifold with throttle body -Factory extractors -3 rods (other 1 is bent) + much more that i've probably forgotten. If you want anything, PM me and i'll see if its here. Cheers Corey
  3. Hmmm.... i would have to agree with you on the weak rod statement, i can verify this 1st hand. I bent 1 of the rods in my old engine when i blew it up. Funny thing is that it wasn't the rod connected to the piston that melted. Must have been the only piston thats any good. Corey
  4. Happy Birthday Matt, hope you have a wonderful day!! :D Corey
  5. Hey matt, Just wondering bout the cost of a Trust E-manage or an ApexĂ power FC for an Altezza with hand controller. Cheers Corey
  6. Went for a drive on Saturday afternoon, to run the new engine in. Did 780km. Christchurch to Blenheim via Lewis Pass 482 km = 46.32L (30.19 mpg) 3/4 tank. Then Blenheim to Christchurch 300 km = 1/2 tank. Which i was impressed at!! Corey
  7. Is that all? Or is that just a guess? My 3s-ge turbo was 170 rwkw before it blew, will be more now. Hope urs is more than that a. ;) Corey
  8. Hey Lawrence, I'm looking at going for a LONG cruise on saturday. Over the Lewis pass to reefton up to Nelson then over to Blenheim, stay the nite there then come home sunday morning. We can meet up sunday afternoon sometime. Any ideas? Toyspeed meets in Harvey Norman carpark, so we could meet there at about 2:00. Give me a txt if interested on 021 414 432. Corey
  9. Keith, I posted a picture of his car, that he sent me, in the gallery. Looks awesome. Might get a new front bumper off him. Corey :)
  10. Nice 1 Keith :D Ian is the person who supplied the new engine for my car when i blew the old 1 up. I'm still running the engine in after the work done on the engine, seems to have alot more 'pull' now, and thats with 5 psi boost, can quite safely run 9 psi now. Once the engine is run in, then i'll bump the boost up a bit..... :D Then really have some fun.. :P Corey
  11. Hi guys, I disconnected the breather line last nite and ran it to a bottle to catch the oil, and plugged the hole in the intake pipe. Went for a drive, and was amazed that disconnecting the breather would make so much difference!! It got rid of the idle problem, the backfiring trouble when backing off from full throttle, and generally just ran better. Lawrence, if u read this, i would suggest that u look at this to resolve ur problem. At least it may help. ;) Corey
  12. Yea, im running a link... for the fuel ..a trust ECU piggyback for the ignition.. .. and the original ECU to run everything else. The 3 systems are fighting each other a bit, but it works. Another thing that may have caused detonation on my engine was that the breather off the top of the engine was plumbed back into the air intake tract, after the air flow meter. Which basically means there was more air in the intake system than the air flow sensor registered. e.g. to much air= lean running at highish revs-not good. I'm gonna put an oil catch can on the breather and plug up the hole in the pipe to the compressor for the turbo, should fix the problem.... and fix the irratic idling aswell. :D Corey
  13. Wasn't ever checked. They never touched the head, it was all bottom end work they did. I have the same problem with the idle on my car, not quite that bad tho Lawrence. Won't idle smoothly. I read somewhere that the only way to fix it is to run a return line back to the fuel tank from the fuel rail... coz they don't have 1. Read it on a u.s. site i think. Corey
  14. Yay for me, my car's finished. They checked the valve clearances wen it was cold and they found out there was NO clearance on most of the valves on the inlet side. So they skimmed the shims and now its good as new...coz it is!!! Cars down at Westpac stadium for the show now. You never no, it may show up in Performance Car mag. :D Alls well that ends well Just the bills now...... Corey
  15. Went to pick my car up today... coz its finished.... then they started it up...... And guess what.... it has a strange knocking/tapping noise coming from the top end somewhere. Pulled rocker cover off and checked clearances, and they were all wrong.... Then they got the CORRECT clearances, and all was good on that front. So... they think its something else ( either valve spring, or something like a valve hitting a piston.....) By the way, the manual Altezza engines have different cams to the autos.. and the manuals have TITANIUM exhaust valves aswell. ;) Car's going back together tomorrow morning, so i can use it this weekend.. yay!! Then pulled apart again next week..... ...and Lawrence that sounds like a wicked idea... we'll have to meet up somtime...before hand. Corey
  16. Hey Muzza, did you get the pivot hooked up ok? What's ur best 0-400 time? Corey
  17. Mine's 170 kw at the wheels.. or at least.. it was, hopefully more now :) Turbo does help tho....
  18. Ok guys, everything - engine wise - is back in the car. New intercooler has been made and fitted. New intercooler piping, a new plumb-back blowoff valve are all ready to go, just waiting for some silicon hosing for the i.c. pipingto turn up. (There was none left in the country, so they are waiting for the new shipment to come thru customs today, then it will be sent down). Just another problem to add to the list... Also found out that the compression is more like 9.5:1, which is even better- more boost... ;) Once they are fitted, all that needs to be done is put the bonnet and the bumper back on, then i'll be away.... racing... finally. Car will be in the show, at the 4's & Rotataries south island champs this weekend in the Toyspeed stand, since i'm pretty much the only Lexus member down here. Corey
  19. Hey i'm in Chch. I put in a pivot speed defender, which did the trick. ( $220 from jap race) U hav to put something in the speed line to basically over-ride the factory cut-out. There are other products out there that do the same job. Hope this helps Corey
  20. Yea, forged pistons- pretty fancy ones too ;) Standard rods and crank. Rods look pretty strong, didn't do any damage to my ones. I'll put up some pictures off some stuff, wen i get it all back from Miles Toyota. Corey
  21. Hey guys, Just thought I would give you an update on the re-building of my engine. The engine was re-assembled on Friday, complete with lowering of compression to 10:1, to allow me to run 7-8 psi with no troubles. Found out that they also come standard at 11.4:1, and with forged pistons. Hopefully it will have about the same power as before (170 rwkw) Should have more torque down low, which will be good. May loose the nice exaust tone, since the compression has been lowered :( The engine is going to be dropped off on Monday, to be fitted back into the car, then its going around to be measured up for the new intercooler. If you were wondering what happened to the old 1, it was stolen off the front of the car while parked down at Miles Toyota, in their locked up yard. Hoping to have it back by Friday next week, at the latest. I'll keep you updated. :) Corey
  22. Hey Muzza, They should be NGK iridium tip spark plugs from factory, so unless u are going to go platinium, i would stick with what u have. Corey
  23. Hey, The guys that are doing my engine, Car Aid, got me a new cambelt for $45. Thought it would be wise to do it while they had the engine out. They just measured up the old 1 and got 1 the same. Corey
  24. Hehe, i don't have a cutout anymore. Car pulls about 6000 rpm in top gear...well thats all i've tested it 2. I think i'll be looking at shell helix for the new engine, since quite a few of the guys here are running it :D
