  1. Which of the portable GPS has this "accuracy gauge"? I've got one of the latest TomTom units and I didn't see any gauge of this type? I've never used tomtom so I don't know where to click it. But in the ones I have used in the past, there was always an indicator when you entered the GPS status window. It ranged from 1.0 (best) to higher, the higher the number the worse accuracy. I used Mio, and when you tap on the little satellite window and it shows the latitute longitute, speed, individual satellite signal strength and so on, it had the accuracy window there as well. If you can't find the accuracy gauge thingy, just make sure the area you're driving in is completely clear. :)
  2. LOL! Ye shall never lose faith in any Lexus system, something else is always to blame! :) Good stuff, as expected. On a side note, does anyone have this minor software glitch, where every once in a while your phone screen freezes? On a very odd occasion, perhpas once or twice a week, when I press the phone button to enter the phone screen (whether car moving or not), instread of the keypad or speed dial screen, I get the 'ringing' screen, even though the phone isn't engaged? It remains like that even when I cancel the screen and go back into it. The only way to fix it for me is to restart the car or dial (and hang up) someone off my phone direct. Has anyone else encoutenred that? Not a big isue as it doesn;t happen all too often, but might as well ask... EDIT: The phone screen on the EMV, not the phone itself.
  3. My old soarer used to have that feature too. Sometimes I played a joke with a new passenger who's never been inside the car before. Doors lock, they pull on the handle and it won't open, and in creepy voice I say "muhahaha, I'm gonna rape you now!!!" lol! But yeah, don't know how you can modify it. I'm guessing if you buy a US driver's door handle off ebay, it will solve your problem. Or you can pull both driver's and passengers' apart and see what the difference is between them.
  4. Also, most portable GPS units have an accuracy gauge, which shows how accurate the GPS signal is (there could be trees, or other obstructions causing the signal to be less accurate. Just get out onto an open road with minimal obstructions, and make sure the accruacy gauge shows max accuracy or something, and that will be your speed. Oh, and also, set your cruse control on an even speed, say 60, 70 or 100 or whatever, and travel like that for a few seconds so your GPS catches up. Once you're cruisng at a steady speed, only then take a look at the GPS. I know I'm stating the obvious, but I've come across some people who sped up to a speed, glanced at the GPS straight away and conclude it's not accruate. The GPS receives a signal once every a second or someting, and it calculates speed based on time traveled between the first readng and the next one. Chances are, you have the same problem as we do :)
  5. Not aware of any new mobile towers... Might have to have a look around, it's only been like that for a week and a half. I think I will check with the neighbours first, they might have something transmitting perhaps.
  6. Got a strange problem with what I'm guessing is some sort of radio interfence at my parents house. For some reason any car that is parked on the driveway and in the vincinity of their house and on the street, their key remotes don't work at all, so you can't lock unlock your car remotely. I've tried it on a Forrester, a Falcon, Aurion, and my IS250. I also have trouble starting the IS250. Strangely enough when I come within the proximity of my car, the remote acknowledges with a flash, however still can't lock/unlock/start the car in the usual manner. When I press the black lock button on the door handle, the remote flashes as well, but doesn't lock. All those cars' remotes work anywhere else, but near the house, so it's not a battery thing. It's only been like that for the last week or two. I've switched off all power to the house, thinking there may be something emitting a signal, but it didn't improve the situation (perhaps it's the neighbours, who knows!) I don't know of any ghosts in the area haha, there's gotta be some sort of logical explanation for that. Has anyone encountered something like that before? Know what it may be, how to fix it? Cheers!
  7. The dealer can plug in a little device and change the setting for you. Only they can do it, so you'll need to pay them a visit.
  8. Regardless whether designed for 91 or not, you will get better mileage out of 98 simply due to higher octane rating. There will be less petrol used up as 98 has more energy than 91. I haven't tried it on my IS, but few years ago when I put 91 into my soarer, which I always ran on 98, it used up noticeably more fuel. Also, premium fuel is more refined and cleaner for the engine.
  9. I think I know where you went wrong fleetmanager. Instead of burning the disc image out of the ISO file, you burnt the actual ISO file on the disc, if that makes sense. What DVD burning software are you using? Nero? Haven't got it on my work computer atm to check, but from memory you choose something that says 'burn image' or somethign like that. Just copying the ISO file onto the DVD like you would normally with other files won't work. Poisson, you'll find when you check the contents of the DVD, it will contain bunch of folders and various different files, not the ISO file on its own. The ISO file is a disc image file that contains all the files that are on the disc, sort of what the rar files are, except not compressed. You can even open it with winRAR, and you will see the contents of it. :)
  10. Those features are available on all IS250s as far as I know. Unless there are some extra settings on the 09 that aren't on the 08. For instance the remote window opening and closing is definately available on your 08, my car has it ('06), and so have the various service rentals I've had over the years, including '07 and '08 models.
  11. There's a saying fellas: you can't be gentle with a rental :D That is surprising. Doesn't happen in my car either (3 yrs old)
  12. If I may add, I noticed that my bluetooth connection even works when my phone is in my study and I'm about to drive out of the garage lol!
  13. I have had two HTC phones paired up to my car, tytn II (windows 6) and now the new Touch Pro 2 (windows 6.1) and have had absolutely no problems with the IS250's bluetooth system whatsoever. Always connects straight away, and never drops out. I usually keep it in the middle storage section with the door slid shut, and connection is nice and clear. It's really hard to diagnose it like that, probably best if you try to eliminate one factor. Have you tried another phone?? Probably be the first step you'd need to do to determine what the problem is. If the car ends up being the problem, then there's something wrong with it because it shouldn't happen, I guess would have to be a warranty job. What year is your car?
  14. Strange, I had my speedometer cluster replaced due to the weird noise it was making, with a new one, yet there's still a difference in speed readout...
  15. I have exactly the same problem on my 16s. Might speak to my dealer about it next time and see what they say. Dealers tend to differ in their responses I've noticed.
  16. What FrankyX said, Homelink is a US only feature. Don't feel so bad, aussie spec IS250 can also close the windows and sunroof with the remote. US IS250 can't due to their trigger happy lawyers. Same goes for the on screen rear guidance function thingy on the reversing camera.
  17. Are they on drugs??? Firstly IS-F does not equal IS300, nowhere near! IS300 = IS250. I owned(d) both, and they both are roughly the same in terms of performance. There is nothing in the IS lineup at the moment to equal IS200, that was an embarassingly slow car, good riddance! Crikey, sounds like they're talking themselves out of making some extra money... the gap is HUGE! Might have to think of a petition or something haha. Having said that, the IS300 could have come with turbos, as it has essentially the same engine as the Supra. Then I would agree with their IS300 = IS-F comment. But Lexus Australia still needs to grow some balls I think! Then again, the current shape IS is due for an update in two years time, so most likely they just won't bother with the 350 at all. Here's hoping the next model will have this gap filled.
  18. Yep, stupid Lexus Australia is definately losing sales as a result. If it wasn't for the fact that I've had enough play with powerful cars in the past, I probably wouldn't have bought the 250. I had a friend of mine almost convinced to buy one, it ticked boxes everywhere, other than power output. He went for a 335i instead.
  19. 1 - Dealer plugs in a device and changes this setting for you 2 - -unsure- 3 - Are you serious??? 4 - Can't be done
  20. I doubt you would be able to simply change a setting. Assuming mechanically there is nothing different, you'd probably need to get a new mirror ECU out of SL (I presume there is a mirror ECU, as my soarer had one).
  21. Beats me why they wouldn't sell IS350 here in Oz... makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. If I had a choice I'd choose the 350 over the 250. I think I read somewhere that Lexus Australia believes introducing the 350 would take a bit of shine away from the IS-F, which I reckon is just bollocks! There is a massive gap between the 250 and the F. Look at BMW, they have their crappy 320i, their M3, and the 335i in between. If you can't afford the M3, you can still get a good performance out of the 335i. What do IS buyers get? Not much unless you go all the way and buy the IS-F, which unfortuantely is not within the reach of many people. Lexus Australia are shooting themselves in the foot I reckon! Stuff the ghey IS250C... bring the IS350 Lexus Australia!!!!!!
  22. Weird, that shoudln't happen. Have you tried putting the old disc back in and seeing if it appears again?
