I've noticed something bizarre with my engine. Very rarely when the car comes to a complete stop, the engine revs become very erratic, going past 1000 rpm for a small moment, then back down to 400rpm and about to stall, then back up again and so on, for maybe two seconds, then settles back to normal idle. Very random too, it might occur twice or three times in one week, and at other times it might be three weeks before it reoccurs again. I spoke to the dealer and they know about this issue but have no solution for it. Apparently Lexus techs has been looking at it for a long period of time, and aren't sure what causes it etc. Very hard to diagnose as well, due to the randomness of it all. Was told it isn't detrimental to the enigne, thankfully. Just wondering, do any of you get that as well?

I've seen the newest satnav screen, they do look great! But I don't think map version upgrade will change anything. It does contain firmware update data, but the update is not that extreme, that it will change the look of it. Not sure if you've ever seen IS300's satnav, or even RX330's satnav screens, but they are a bit more old school, more pixelated than the ones we got, and upgrading to a newer map DVD doesn't change them at all. Going by that, I doubt it that you can change this one either. It will most likely sit embedded within the satnav ECU. Of course I could be wrong, but going by past experience with previous lexus satnav updates, it's probably the same deal.

I've been in WA for 16 years and I'm yet to see fog here haha. Of course they are for bling, they're not needed haha.

At least he wasn't doing that on a public road, but in a controlled environment, where you're supposed to. Cr@p happens, but thumbs up for taking it and giving it a go I reckon. Pity about the misfortune he's had :(

I still haven't fitted them... was an impulse buy coz cheap. It does look odd though, having HID headlights and non-HID foglights...

I bought myself a set of generic foglight HIDs for $99 recently. This is probably one of those things which don't matter whether they are genuine or not... P.S. Agreed, lose the drl's...

A member from another car club went down to last night's whoop ass wednesday (in Perth) as a spectator He noticed a white IS-F, which did a few runs in the 12's (impressive for a stock car btw!), no burnout etc etc. Then it comes out for 4th run, must have turned traction control off, breaks out off the lines, starts to get sideways - breaks out hard to the right, no correction, driver on the gas the whole time, drives full pelt into the concrete barrier - complete front ender. Driver fail, no insurance, 150k Lexus, priceless!!!! Front end took a decent full frontal impact, that will not buff out! Here's few pics he took: Somebody's Christmas just got ruined :( Hopefully not too expensive fix but you never know...

And? And I wouldn't buy it; or would buy it for a lot less than asking price, than a car with dealer stamps, all else being equal. Would rather see official dealer stamps in there, than a Joe Bloggs stamps. You'll find majority of second hand buyers prefer that also (unless they happen to know said Joe Bloggs, slim chance). And I'd definately stay clear of any auto masters stamped cars haha.

Get your dealer to look at it, shouldnt happen. Probably some sort of earthing problem. You'd still get that with an aftermarket stereo. Having said that, the way they make cars these days, it is extremely hard to fir an aftermarket stereo into the dash nowadays. I've seen some people do it in an IS250, and it looks horrible. I've seen some guy remove the centre air vents and install his strereo in that. Looks like cr@p. It doesn't happen to be a buzzing noise coming out of the trim does it? I have a minor problem with that which I'm gonna get looked at next service, but it appears like a piece of trim has gotten slightly loose and buzzes with bass sometimes. Perhaps that's what you've got.

I agree with the general sentiment of this thread. I'll be honest with you and I don't want to come across as rude, but I just think you are too young for this car hey :) You want to rice up your IS250... I think you got the wrong car, you're just ruining it. You're probably better off getting something that is more suitable to the things you want to do with it. Those rims definately don't suit it. It's not really the size that concerns me, it's more the general cheapness of it. And the bling bling chrome... yeah, nah, do not want. Generally if you want to upgrade your rims, you'd need to spend like around 10% of the value of the car on the rims. Obviously a 60K car = roughly 5K for rims. You'll then know you're getting something decent, quality rims. It's a quality car, don't put 1500 dollar tempe rims on it. You see all sorts of shocking mods on lancers, old skylines and so on. Fair enough with $1500 rims... those car's cost under 15K bucks anyway. And thjose rims would suit them well. But not this car. Don't make it an abortion :) It's one thing to do mods to your car. Another to do tasteful mods. Number one rule re mods is to spend more up front to start with, get quality mods. If you're chucking on cheap mods on your car, you're making your car look cheap. Simple.

It was a motorkhana, so it's a bit more about agility than speed itself, as they are tight tracks. But fair enough, he's probably a worse driver than I am, trust me, I've been giving him *BLEEP* for that ever since! :P

Bridge thing doesn't bother me much personally. I think it's pretty cool actually.

Yeah I get 7 l / 100 kays on country drives, if I don't push it too much. Fairly normal. If I drive like a nanna, I get under 6.5, but the extra savings aren't worth the boredom lol!

Any chance they'd give you an ISF loaner if you hinted you were in the market for one....... Umm... not sure. Can always ask. But my god, I would have so much fun with it over the weekend, but even for one day. I'd take a day off and not get out of it till I drop it back lol!

Fair enough if you don't drive much during the day. I usually book my service for a friday. Off to work, do a bit of drivign around, say I can't come on the friday arvo to pick up the car. Keep using the complimentary car all weekend, free tank of fuel etc, get my car back on monday. It's worth it if you can get some good use out of it :)

I agree and disagree. I have had some pretty bad experiences with quality brand dealer services from BMW, Volvo and Mercedes. The dealer treats you as a captive audience based on that you don't know any better. BMW - Quoted $4k by two separate dealers to rebuild my transmission. Fixed for $200 by a transmissions specialist in Meadowbank. BMW - Blown water pump. Quoted $550 to repair. Bill was $900 when I came to pick it up. I kicked up a ruckus (In a polite but firm manner) and insisted on dealing with the senior manager. Ended up with a bill for $600. Volvo - repeated requests while car was under warranty to check weirdness in transmission. When out of warranty was advised of $5k to rectify. Fought this with Volvo Australia who ended up footing the bill. I have a highly recommended independent automotive mechanic in Artarmon who has been in business for years, has been written up in the newspaper on numerous occasions for exemplary customer service, and has many times helped me out and done extra work where he didn't need to. He will use genuine parts but recommend OEM parts where they are the same but better priced. Also, as well as himself he has 2 highly skilled mechanics who specialise in luxury and sports cars. I agree, don't just take your car to some franchised or backyard auto mechanic, only use mechanics outside the dealer if they come recommended. But, my statement to anyone who thinks the dealer service gives you any more than a bit of frippery thrown in (i.e. The wash, nice loaner car, nice waiting room) then you're dreaming. Everyone has a choice. I choose to support a reliable independant business with good old fashioned service. Yeah, was a bit of a general statement. As far as Lexus dealers go, they fare a lot better than other brands, which is a known fact. Was kind of leaning more towards their reputation than other brands. A family friend used to have a mechanical business, and he serviced my as well as my family's cars for many years. Unfortunately he retired. But it's certainly good to have someone like that, who you know personally and can trust.

Does that $150 cover full tank of fuel? Nope. It's free with Lexus... Your $60 change will most likely get spent on fuel anyway. Based on that I can't see why you wouldn't go to the dealership.

Any dealership for any car brand will always be more expensive than your backyard mechanic or auto masters monkeys. They also have a reputation to uphold. I get my car serviced at the dealership, good peace of mind, and I really do not find it that much more expensive. Auto masters quoted me around 400 bucks for my last service, with what I hope was genuine filters and stuff, and competent people, but you never know that for sure! I don't mind paying extra 200 bucks and get a complimentary car and car wash, and know that they will definately do a good job. Heard all sorts of stories about cars being serviced in those other places. Unless you know a mechanic who's good and who you can trust, stick with the dealership. Auto masters, ultra tune and all those other places often get apprentices to work on your car. Some of the things I hear of are just shocking. Often they don't get supervised properly. Car's get thrashed on the test drive. Stuff is forgotten. And so on. No point penny pinching hey, do that with your Kia, but crikey, it's a Lexus, it deserves a bit more care than some hung over incompetent apprentice monkey can provide. You bought a 65K+ car, not a 13,990 drive away special. I wouldn't buy a second hand car like that if it didn't have a proper log book with dealer stamps in them, or at least would pay a lot less for it than one that did, all else being equal.

Rip off. Just get an aftermarket set of wheels that is bigger and looks better, and costs less. $6K for 17s is crackpipe price.

How much did you pay for the extended warranty, if you don't mind me asking? I had a quote from the general Lexus hotline and it was about 1700 bucks for extra two years and 150K kays or something like that... Was it $1K cheaper because you negotiated it when you bought the car, or did you buy the extended warranty afterwards? My car's warranty is running out next year, considering upgrading it.

We're talking about IS250's service interval, on a Lexus forum, in an IS250 section... You should have a chat with my mechanic, he sees no problem with servicing my car every 15K kays, it may open your eyes. You loudly disagree, without providing any genuine or logical reason for doing so. In fact, there is no substance behind your argument, only that you "disagree with us on the service intervals", but have nothing to back up your opinion, and I emphasise your opinion. Yes, you constantly say that you 'think' we are wrong, however again, you have nothing to prove that your argument in fact is right. Please give us something that will convince us you have a valid argument, rather than "oh, coz my mate said so"... We're merely questioning your basis for doing so... still no answer. First of all, different car, differnt engine, different everything. And it's a Ford! Secondly, whatever that is, means absolutely nothing. You want to prove your point, show us a comparison between a car (preferably an IS250, not a substandard alternative like an XR6) that is serviced every 10K, and one that is serviced every 15K. Whatever that is you posted doesn't add anything to this. I agree that our cars need to be serviced earlier than 15K kays if they don't do them in 12 months time. Also, if they work in extreme conditions, such as cold temperatures, or hot temperatures, or if the vehicle is used lots for things such as towing etc. But your average use vehicle that does the kays within 12 months etc without a harsher than average life, 15K is perfectly fine. Of course, you haven't even specified your usage patterns, so who knows...

Oh dear... My uncle has an 05 IS250, bought it since new. Car had oil changed as per recommended intervals. He lives in the country, does a lot of kays, has a bit over 150K kays on the odo (beats me why he hasn't sold it yet, but never mind, he keeps his cars for a loooong time). And guess what. No problems with the engine what so ever, never had any problems. And probably won't have any problems for a loooong time, even when he sells it with 350K+ on the odo (that's when he sold his last car, LS400, with engine in very good condition still, it's a Lexus after all) I may not be a grease monkey or an oil scientist, but everyone can use logic and common sense. 5K kay oil changes on the IS250 is an overkill. Period. Since you work in the workshop 6 days a week, how many IS250's have you seen come in with broken engines due to 15K service intervals??? With what it is you're claiming Mr Expert, you must be inundated with work! Damn, those IS250's are lemons aren't they? So why don't you service it every 1,000 kays then?? I think it would be very appropriate with your reasoning, don't you think? That way they will work forever without a problem, all the way to the million kilometre mark. Because we all care that those cars are still around in 30 years time. /end sarcasm P.S. So I'm an idiot now, for servicing my car every 15K kays? Grow up! P.P.S. While I'm not a professional grease monkey, I am not afraid of using a spanner. I've modified and worked on my soarer all by myself for years, not exactly rocket science...
