Yeah i got the Toyota part number etc but from the dealer they are still a rip off vs what Ebay can offer and thats for about 30 so i have plenty plenty of spares lol. Just need to wait a little longer but no big deal. Ps No more mods haha, i think weve all said that at some point but it generally doesnt last.
-
Im no expert and im sure many do mods and not inform their insurance company and all is well when its the other guys fault but be weary if you have an incident and you are to blame. Ive heard a few horror stories of insurance companies knocking back claims based on the fact certain modifications was not disclosed and something they would not cover. Generally the mainstream larger insurance companies dont want anything to do with modifications and the ones that do specialise in this, well im sure you'll be paying more every year to know its covered so its a personal preference thing what you do.

Gotta love Ebay, making shopping so convenient. Got a few broken engine cover clips. Cant believe how much cheaper it is overseas vs local (for the same part number). Ps If i was flying to the USA, id be getting more than just an intake, id be using DHL and getting diffusers, headers and anything else i could find lol. They love their ISF's over there.

Managed to get a pack from Peps Auto. Here i was thinking it would be a great "Bang for your bucks" mod as you said it was $2. It set me back $6 so now i have to wait till next pay day for more mods haha, kidding. If anyone else wants to do it, its a 1/8 vacuum cap (block off plug), anything larger just slides off. I must admit, for the price and literally 10 seconds to perform it, i was skeptical. As for power, well louder always seems faster lol. Im sure a few kw gain or loss wouldnt be noticeable on a 300kw+ motor but as for sound. Well yep, especially with my exhaust, i can hear more of a growl from about 2k. Only had it on for about a 15 min drive home but im sure i wasted plenty of fuel flooring it just to hear that sound come on earlier. Thanks for the tip with this one :-) Think i may lean towards just a HPS vs complete intake with filter. I would get black too, my bling days are over so no flame red for me lol.
-
Went local Autobarn today, smallest they had slid right off, too big. Didnt actually realise how small that nipple is. Ah well will try local Peps tomorrow. Not sure how it will sound given ive got an exhaust. I do hear the intake open up as is but the dramatic sound difference was more noticeable to me with a stock setup. Im sure if there was any decrease in performance, your tune would have definitely addressed that. I know an aftermarket filter might be debatable for power but everyone practically says its a bit to much louder. Do you notice any increase in sound with the HPS intake tube or not really given the filter remains as is? Just curious. Did you get your HPS from Ebay, seemed to be the cheapest when ive looked around?

Was going to ask the same thing. Any kind of idle surge, fluctuations in your revs vs dropping to 500 and remaining constant. Possible vacuum leak? On my old WRX, i had idle surge, ended up being a blown head gasket but im sure no such thing would happen to such a new ISF.
-
Thanks for the info, i read the vacuum cap thread from the US forums. Seemed like a mixed review but generally most thought it was better (definitely in sound) but also responsiveness although a guy was convinced his track times was slightly down and reverted back to stock. Im sure if any power differences, it may only be a kw here or there so for an engine of our size, i doubt anyone could really notice it so it seemed overwhelmingly it was done by most for the noise factor :-) Do you know if its a 5mm or 6mm vacuum cap? Noticed Autobarn selling both thats all The Takeda did seem tempting as it appears to be the only one that retains the stock box and stage 2 like you said but many on the US forums said they lost power, im sure i even recall seeing a dyno from someone showing this. Hard to remember after reading so many pages about it. I was considering the K&N Typhoon based on what ive read, dyno uploaded, and both aussie and US ISF owners on the forums. http://www.motoiq.com/MagazineArticles/ID/1827/PageID/2672/Project-Lexus-IS-F-Part-1-We-Test-the-KN-Typhoon-High-Flow-Air-Intake.aspx The HP increase is debatable im sure but it was more a case of how much increase vs none or loss of power that i read about other intakes. Who knows i may just go the HPS intake and retain the stock box too lol (about a 1/3 of the price)
-
Yeah i definitely intend on doing that. Just want to get the intake/filter first and then the tune. Ps I do generally drive in sports mode 100% of the time but once i got the Apexi throttle controller, it made a big difference on pedal feel. So hoping the tune will take it to the next level like you say
-
As its intake related, i didnt want to start a new thread. Yes ive read countless forums/threads about intakes and there is so much conflicting info out there as to what sounds better, what flows better, is stock better etc. I might end up purchasing the K&N typhoon based on few dyno articles ive read and people who have it and are happy. Its about $600+. Does anyone know where i can purchase one cheaper (inc postage to sydney) or a syd based workshop? Can anyone else vouch for another intake like Injen, Takeda, HPS only with filter in a box etc?
-
I find normal mode very sedate and i need to drive a bit more agressive to get that smile on my face so if your normal is like sports, that really makes me want to get the tune now lol. This forum is a bad influence haha. I know what you mean though, i think regardless of what mods we have, we always get used to the car and after more. Well i am but as you said, i think after a filter and tune, ill be content and just enjoy it. I just dont think ill twin turbo it or supercharge it like some of the more enthusiasts in the states althgough i can only imagine the drive in those cars :-) Ps A watch is good for a proven 5kw atleast. My LED gear knob is good for atleast 3kw lol
-
Here's my dyno after he did the manifold mod, nothing else. Besides the tune, ive read mixed reviews on intakes, some preferring just the K&N in the box or some get the intake part like HPS, Takeda, Injen but again, some like them, others say they are worse than stock so im hesitant. They are the only 2 engine mods that are simple enough to do and will provide good gains (well the tune anyway)
-
Ah, you must of been the guy Sonny was referring to lol. When i was there last week, he was mentioning he was looking forward to tuning your car. He said another ISF is coming with full exhaust, headers, your mods etc so he wanted to see what he could get out of it. I know headers really do make a difference, all of the guys in the states say the same on the forums and your figures show that. Ive heard intake is good for about 5ish kw's and im sure whilst better im not sure how much better Joe Z is over Xforce but my after (no intake, ported manifold mod, Xforce) is 251kw so 16kw difference give or take before your tune. So i would assume headers would be approx 10kw of that difference. Closer to 20kw if my manifold wasnt modded last week. Gotta love headers :-) So whats next, any future mods planned? When i was there, he had plenty of Holdens there, 1 grey ute pulling big numbers, lumpy cam etc. So many options with those cars, supercharger etc. Not sure besides a tune whats next, thats worthwhile besides supercharging or anything excessively expensive.
-
Yep, i leave for work about 5am everyday so i wanted the Varex which i use every morning to not annoy the neighbours, wake up the family etc. Its a touch quieter than stock so it serves it purpose when leaving. Yeah Sonny mentioned the Xforce should be good for about 10-15kw, headers make more for our cars.
-
Cheers Peter, what you said makes perfect sense and my Brother in law (knows more than me about cars), said it would fix my issues. From memory when Xforce fitted it, im sure the battery wasnt touched :-( Wow $50 for that (from Xforce). Id want a few extra kw's for that price lol
-
So are you saying there could be a performance loss with this part? Like you said, ill have to get the code scanned. Its very hit and miss. Must of been over a month now and it hasnt happened, touch wood. Was just going to get something like this until i saw youre response
-
Marginally louder but only just. Then again i already have a Cat back system that is loud (to me anyway lol) so hard to notice much audible difference. Probably more difference on a stock system. As our cars already put out a lot of power, its hard to notice small gains but this was enough that i could feel the difference, especially down low. I didnt get it tuned but did get a before and after to satisfy my curiousity. Will have to get a scan copy later but its similar power and gains to yours. Only difference from memory between our cars is i have a catback but i have a standard airbox. It went from 239kw before (sounds right given my exhaust) to 252kw after the manifold port increase. Sonny was happy and said the car responded well to the mod. With a tune he said it should reach 270ish give or take. Like yourself, im more about how it feels on the road and it feels like a better pickup throughout the rev range and the dyno supports that. Ps Only recently spend 3.5k on wheels/tyres so may enjoy it as is before more $$$ on a tune lol.
-
He'll need the good part of a day. I was there last week and got my exhaust manifold modified to 3 inches like Sparky but couldnt get the tune done as well on the same day, not enough time etc. Before discovering this thread, i did find another tuning the ISF, CPI performance or something like that at Smithfield i think. Anyways no affiliation, never used so cant vouch for quality but as said, he has tuned them before
-
Damn didnt know this. Just another reason to get a tune lol
-
Cheers for that info, never knew that. Ever since i got my Xforce varex cat back, it was good for a few months and then all of a sudden about once every 1.5months my VCS light comes on, goes into limp mode and i just disconnect the battery for it to go away. Didnt know they sell the sensor spacers. Was considering buying a spark plug antifouler which i believe does the same thing and is very cheap

Only just seen this thread now, saw your posts on the US forums :-) Gave him a call today, seems like a nice no BS guy, not the salesman that some businesses are if you get my drift. Booked in for next week to see if he get me past 1000HP, jokes. Like you, not overly fussed with the final number, just the before and after. Its nice to drive now but lets see if he can tweak it a bit more for me :-)
-
Nah didn't bother.from what I've read on various forums, must don't bother. I find reversing the same, no issue at all. If you reverse quick and heavy footed, maybe but otherwise not really needed my opinion.
-
Congrats on the purchase. Im about 8 months into having my ISF and yeah loving it as much as the first day i got it. When i had my WRX i was never a big fan of V8's. Regarded it as old school way of performance vs newer efficient smaller engines etc. Sure i know many like the Audi 4cyl turbo cars are just as quick with AWD etc, but the V8 mated to the 8 speed gearbox is just so much fun to drive. Power delivery is so different to a turbo and i have a new found respect for V8's. First mod i did was an exhaust and definitely no confusion here, nothing beats the sound of a V8 thats for sure. Never get bored of it.
-
I'd describe it as the sports mode on steroids lol. Especially in either red and in particular purple mode. It's much more enjoyable to drive with the overall responsiveness dramatically better. It just compliments the sports mode perfectly. Read so many reviews online and all feedback was nothing but praise. Got it from a seller on eBay for about 200ish au. Less than a week delivered to Sydney.

Heres a pic of the Apexi unit installed. Really impressed with its factory finished. Most wouldnt even realise its fitted unlike some other chunky units. Definitely a great, affordable and fun mod :-)

Hi Monyx, Here is a link to it. Only approx $40au so a bargain compared to some other ones. Ive got many compliments on it so yeah happy overall. It does sit a bit taller than the stock but if i drive manual, i use the paddles so not overly concerned. Nope you cant lock in 1 colour. They have other knobs but this one you cant. It glows when touched from the front as if youre holding it and then alternates through about 5 colours for 30 seconds before it stops glowing. It comes with a usb charge to cigarette but ive used it for weeks now without a charge. In saying that i hardly touch it so it only glows a few times a day when reversing http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LED-Car-Auto-Shift-Knob-Activated-Discolor-Gear-Stick-Shifter-Lever-For-Lexus-/262241066029?hash=item3d0ec91c2d:g:zFYAAOSwa-dWl0I3
