Is250 90K Service

hey guys, i know theres a few topics around on here about the "big" 90k service and i must say, the pricing that ive seen is absolutely ridiculous!

Anyway ive got my 90k coming up real soon on my 06' 250, and ive tried looking on here for a complete list of EVERYTHING that lexus do to the car because i would rather give a big list to my mechanic and get charged a lot less!

Here's a big tip for you - Source your own spark plugs because the Lexus service charges a ridiculous $70/plug

besides spark plugs, has anyone had their 90k service done at Lexus, and receive a full report as to what they had done?

also should a light or a msg display about a service?

I see they rotate the tyres. Tyres on my '07 are directional for a start and rear ones are wider than the front. If that is oem how do they rotate the tyres?

Wow, the lexus motor oil is pretty cheap, I thought it would be at least $100. Is it fully synthetic?...... For my next service should I just use the lexus oil, or supply own oil which is the 5 -30w Mobile 1?

yeah i was thinking that as well! wondering what sort of motor oil do they use. I am pretty sure it is fully synthetic, i meant they cant put like semi synthetic motor oil in your car and not tell you about it. i would never agree to that. i heard mobil 1 is pretty good with Lexus. I might ask this question next time i do my service

Ok, so this is a revival of an old thread, but I think this could be interesting to some ...

Bowen's invoice shows that "Lexus Motor Oil" - a fully synthetic oil - is used at his dealership. It is suggested in the blogosphere that the "base oil and additive package" is produced by Mobil for Toyota. Furthermore, Toyota have tuned the additive package especially for Lexus engines.

How similar Lexus Motor Oil might be to Mobil 1 is a secret (as you would expect with any white-labelled product). But consider this: you could buy Mobil 1, or you could buy Lexus Motor Oil, which is potentially very similar to Mobil 1, but more optimised for Lexus and yet cheaper!

LOL Lexus oil. It'll be cheap bulk 10w30 in what ever brand that particular dealership uses. It wont be synthetic Mobil for $50 I can tell you that much. $8.00 per L isn't going to get you anything flash.

That platronics report isn't worth the paper its printed on either, they're absolute rubbish.

Actually my oil goes down really fast lately, I am running around 6000km since my last service and I checked my oil level, it is just above the first dot which means low...is this normal?

My is250 90k service is coming up soon too, Contacted Lexus City Melb and Lexus Blackburn they both quoted around $1300 mark.....expensive :(

But I guess it worth doing it on the dealership for the sake Luxus service history? and the quality as well?

Alternatively I now a guy had a workshop specialised in Jap car, preety sure he can do it way cheaper.

Any toughts / input guys?

It's nice to the dealer to do it cos you can have rental car for 6 hour maybe even 1 day, sometimes they give you the is350 which is a blast to drive. Word of advice, supply your own engine oil, I find the lexus motor oil is pretty *BLEEP*ty as it goes down quickly and engine is a bit loud...I'd suggest Mobil 1..don't use castrol, I think the dealer use castrol which is not really good for lexus tbh...

I think so, it is factory recommended viscosity, however i've seen people using 0-40W just so their engine oil can last longer, none the less always asked your dealer if ur not sure, good luck!

The broader the viscosity in oil the less stable it is and the shorter the lifespan. 0w40 will give you more protection as it is suited to run at colder and hotter temperatures than 5w30 BUT it will not last as long as the 30 weight oil.

To be honest though unless you're tracking your car the above wont be issues. Oil degradation happens as a result of time and heat cycles you put the oil through. If you change your oil regularly don't stress too much about this. The best thing you can do is ensure you change the oil regularly.

Play around with oils and see what works. In my WRX the recommended oil was 5w30; I found it ran smoothest on 10w50 semi synthetic. It was stock so there was no need to go such a heavy weight oil but it worked. If you are going an overly heavy oil also make sure you warm the car up properly; the cushioning of heavy oil comes at a price - long term, it can lead to pressure problems if the oil isn't properly heated
