Inside looks spot on!

Exterior I'm a bit up in the air about. Don't like the 2 piece headlights/DRLs at all. Didn't like them on the concept, don't like them on here either. Shame that they are on the F Sport models as that's the only grade I'd consider.

I was sure I'd be buying one of these but I'm not so sure now. Thinking I will put it off until mid-cycle refresh and hope that they tone down the lights and revert to a one piece set up.

Apart from that it looks good. Love that they've finally gone all out on the spindle grille.

Would need to see the tail lights in real life - they look a bit overboard also but I'm guessing this is all only standing out so much because Lexus is renowned for being conservative. This is very "out there" for them.

I see audi-like look. not liking the rear tail-lights. Interior is sporty but has lost abit of class somewhat.

Poll set up please VOTE at the top of the thread!!

Personally i think it looks terrible,

That front headlight design .... looks silly

side on looks like a toyota 86 not a Lexus

Rear plain but suits lexus new range.

steering wheel over complicated

Waiting for a drive to decide but i much prefer the GS at the moment

edit.

To me glancing at it again looks like a cheap subaru

Great that these are released now for public veiwing.

What does everyone think?

The "LFA" digital dash is F-sport only.

No issues here, only grade i'd ever consider! :-)

Headlight design? Silly? Possibly. But definitely different and like nothing before it.

This looks to be a car that people will not mistaken for anything else on the street and i do have to give

lexus credit for being so out there with the design. If anything the IS series has always been a little less conservative than the rest of the Lexus range.

I can see your point with the steering wheel though, but trust me, have a look at Mazda 3's steering wheel and you'll think this ones fine. Its very much cluttered on the 3!

The only thing that bothers me is that massive spindle grill. Looks alright now but once the licence plate goes on i think itll look a little silly.

I reckon a license plate will help the grille and break it up a bit.

If I had one, a small slimline number plate with black background would be used.

It will certainly be a car for Lexus that will go one way or the other. It won't be inbetween in terms of sales.

I just hope it looks so much better in the flesh and also hope that within the next week before its official launch they reveal that they were just joking with the headlights! Wishful thinking, huh!

Love it! But...

Not sure about the black plastic trim around rear exhaust, the dash section under the centre air vents, looks quite dated and not thought through properly and the Chrysleresk style clock.

Definitely looking forward to further reviews & images from Detroit and a chance to drive later this year.

I was really looking forward to changing over to the new model in 1 - 2 years time but am deeply disappointed with the new design (Lexus designers: I hope you are hearing this!!).

The spindle grille, ugly headlights, black moulding on the rear bumper and mediocre leather wrapped gearshift really put me off. Also, the rims seemed to have come from the LSF but looked strikingly similar to the previous gen Accord Euro.

The new 3 series looked quite unspectacular (terrible front nose if I may add) and I thought it wouldn't take much for the new IS to blow it out of the water in terms of design but sigh..it's going to be an uphill task to outsell it now.

These pictures looked better than those on watoday.com.au. Link here:

Even my 4-year-old son agreed it looked bad and thought our current IS was nicer. Take a look at the comments below the report. It is hard to appreciate the improved drive if one cannot look past the skin.

The only thing that I liked was the speedometer.

Hopefully it does look better in the metal.

Anyone know when AU Lexus dealers will showcase them?

June BlakTegra

Poss pushed to July?

In regards to new IS, just rember that out of the 3 models(Luxury, F-sport, Sports Luxury) only one will have this F-sport grill.

The other 2 models will look somewhere between the pictures here & the current model.

250, 350 as we have now plus a rumoured 300h

Great look.

Looks sporty. Will definitely appeal to the younger generation,

Will have bought it if it came out this year if not because of the GFC instead of CT200h. ;)

Oh we'll, hopefully it will only get better!!! :)

The
2013 Lexus IS
has been unveiled at the Detroit auto show, sporting sharp styling, a supercar-inspired cabin, greater practicality and a brand new hybrid option.

All three variants of the third-generation Lexus IS – the
,
and the new petrol-electric IS300h – will go on sale in Australia from the third quarter of this year, some eight years after the outgoing second-gen model first arrived in 2005.

says it has taken a fresh approach in developing the new IS, claiming “every aspect … has been engineered with a renewed focus on engaging performance, agile handling, accurate response to driver input and highly communicative feedback”.

2013-lexus-is-20-625x354.jpg

Lexus IS chief engineer Junichi Furuyama said it was his intention to deliver customers in the premium mid-sized sedan segment a vehicle offering an entertaining driving experience.

“The conventional approach involves developing each individual aspect in the hope that they will combine to offer an engaging driving experience,” Furuyama said.

“By contrast, development of the new IS flipped this process on its head, first establishing the pleasurable driving experience owners desire, and then developing the individual performance elements to support it.”

2013-lexus-is-11-625x316.jpg

The 2013 Lexus IS inherits its new multi-link rear suspension and electric power steering systems from the larger
sedan. The revised front suspension set-up is 20 per cent more rigid than before, while overall body rigidity has been enhanced through the use of new construction techniques.

Like the GS, Lexus is offering F Sport versions of each model variant, which, along with more aggressive exterior styling and racier cabins, also score sports-tuned steering and adaptive variable suspension, while variable gear ratio steering is available in the IS350.

Lexus Australia expects 30 per cent of new IS customers to tick the F Sport option box, and as many as half of all IS350 buyers.

2013-lexus-is-29-625x380.jpg

The IS250 and IS350 will continue to be powered by 2.5- and 3.5-litre V6 petrol engines respectively, with the later carrying over the powerplant from the previous-generation car.

The IS300h is equipped with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine and an electric motor. The hybrid system is tipped to produce about 162kW, while Lexus is targeting combined cycle fuel consumption below 4.3 litres per 100km and CO
2
emissions of less than 100 grams per kilometre.

The IS250 continues with a six-speed automatic transmission, while the IS350 scores the eight-speed auto from the Lexus LS. The IS300h features a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

At 4665mm, the 2013 Lexus IS is 80mm longer than the previous model, while the wheelbase has grown 70mm to 2800mm. Lexus says the full benefit of this growth is evident in the back seats, with the new model offering an extra three inches of knee space for second-rowers.

The boot has also grown more than 20 per cent to 480 litres (450L for the hybrid, which has to accommodate a rear-mounted battery pack), and for the first time the rear seats can be folded forwards in a 60:40 split.

The IS sedan’s cockpit is inspired by the
supercar, with a high-tech TFT display in the instrument cluster. The angle of the steering wheel has been lowered and its reach adjustment increased, both of which team with a newly designed driver’s seat with more lateral support to offer a more driver-focused seating position.

2013-lexus-is-14-625x236.jpg

Like the new GS and
, an analogue clock keeps time in the middle of the centre console, while the IS scores Lexus-first electrostatic switches for the climate control system, which allows occupants to adjust temperature settings with the touch of a finger.

Ten airbags (including rear seat side bags) are standard, while available advanced driver assist systems include auto high beams, lane departure alert, blind spot monitor, and rear cross traffic alert.

Gotta say, the release video was quite impressive, given all the hype expected for a new release such as the 2014 IS.

While all the images, talk and hype is great, i can't wait to drive it to see that it actually does match up.

And the below IS3000h, while not confirmed if coming to Aust, it will not be seen in the US, i for one dont mind it. In an F-Sport trim, at 4.5 ltr /100km i may actually consider it (if it does make it's way to our shores).
