Well, he's the go and the part that I think really stinks when it comes to buying cars here.

Go to the Lexus US website and look at the prices.

Base models for the IS250 is just over $33k US. Now there are a lot on features included, but they also have a lot of options. Main one being the ML sound and Nav package at $3900 US, and $2k US for a Luxury Plus Value Edition package which items are mainly included in the Oz car.

Now the IS350 starts at $37.5k US with much the same options and prices. SO, only $4.5k US difference!!!!!!!!!

And this is where prices SHOULD BE!!!!!!!!!!

Same cars, same set ups, same gearbox, same internals, just a bigger motor that costs Lexus two tenths of bugg@r all to produce!!!!

I hope Lexus of Aust is watching, cause, it's about time they stopped scre#ing us all over...................

Now in Japan, before Tax prices are

IS350 - L 5.1M Yen - F 5.0M Yen - S 4.8M Yen - Base 4.7M yen

IS250 - L 4.3M Yen - F 4.6M Yen - S 4.0M Yen - Base 3.7M yen

There is a list with add ons. But basically $1Aus = 80yen today.

Basically the IS350L would be $64k Aus, and the IS250L would be $54k Aus. So, only $10k difference for top on the line models. Gee, by the way, $54k + 5% import duties doesn't equal $84k which is about what Lexus Oz is selling the current IS250 Lux Sports for!!!!

Finsihed my rant and will go and take my pills now!

just more than a bigger motor actually but yeah lol

Ok so if the difference is 10K, which sounds ok, but starting from what?

If the base 250 is around 56K, then the base 350 should be 66K as someone already stated. I think if the 350 is going to rival the 335i, it should be alot more expensive (over 100K)...but again to me this is pricey for what most think is still a Toyota?

It will be fascinating to see what they do with the pricing. It wont be good for the resale of our IS250s either way. People with the money to upgrade to the 350 will flood the market with 250s, and you'd expect the 250's will be given a form of 'runout' pricing, with an 'all-new' model expected (from what Ive heard) in late 2012.

I think the ulterior motive of getting the 350 into Australia is to help with the runout of LHD stock. Australia has the most buoyant vehicle market of any left-hand drive market in the world. And by upping the volumes of IS's being sold with the 350 and a cheaper 250, it not only gets the volumes up, but raises the interest in Lexus, especially for drivers in that 80-90k budget who are looking for some performance - the guys who might go for a 325/330 or A4 Quattro, or C280 or Alfa Brera. That would also set them up for greater interest in the all-new IS range.

And Lexus will be desparate to avoid the disaster they had with the RX runout - where they had far too much LHD stock to move and to offer ridiculous driveaway costs, 0% finance offers and the like.

There's not going to be big numbers of IS350's coming into Australia. So I doubt the market will be FLOODED with IS250's. You made me laugh with that one

Left hand drive in Australia???? What are you smoking? Also IS250 won't be getting cheaper.

Again with the Left hand Drive. At run out on the RX stock levels in Australia were very moderate compared to prevous runouts.

Well at least you're consistant.....its all way off

+ 5% import duties

And the rest you've missed

Plus 10% GST

Plus 5% Stamp duty

Plus 33% Luxury car tax. Add it up....it stinks.

I agree with everything you said except I think its the government thats screwing us the most.

Dis.

The prices I pulled off the Japan site was without Taxes. Taxes there add about $5k to the price.

Even adding 5% Tarrif to the Japan IS250L price only puts it at $56.5k and under FBT. Adding 10% GST makes it about $62k, so the FBT would only be about $1,700, making total about $64k. I'll have that small change ($20k) thank you very much!

Also, you have to remember, the prices I got straight off the websites for Lexus US and Japan and are RRP. There has to be add ons to these before the dealers RRP goes in.

Now, I have seen a price of about $1,700 to freight a car from Japan to Oz and that includes someone elses fees and insurance, so the likes of Lexus must get it a whole lot cheaper.

Again, we in Oz are getting scre#ed over by all the imported car deals, no matter which brand, and Lexus are just doing the same.

You're right Danny. It reads harsher than it was meant.

But come on.......left or right hand drive in Oz is common knowledge.

LEX51S is right....this thread has gone off course with people bitching about price when we don't even know what it is.

Lets focus on how awesome this car is.

I want to put IS250 badges on mine straight away and really freak out some BMW & Merc drivers.LOL

By the way ilv1004s, I sold my Blue IS so you'll see something different at the cruise...whenever that is? ;)

Oh yeah?? Do tell!!

Many years ago I was playing with the idea of chucking the 4L V8 out of LS400 into an IS200. The engine itself was quite cheap, about a grand, plus other bits and bobs of course. Somehow I gave up on the idea when I realised I was better off chucking a turbo on the 2J in my IS300 (which didn't end up happening either haha).

Just wondering, is the 3.5 litre V6 same as the V6 in the RX350??

RX350:

2GR-FE

2GR-FE engine in the 2008 Lexus RX 350The 2GR-FE is a 3.5 L (3456 cc) version. Bore remains at 94 mm but stroke is reduced to 83 mm. Reported output varies depending on the vehicle application, but is approximately 268 hp (200 kW) at 6200 rpm with 248 lb·ft (336 N·m) of torque at 4700 rpm on 87 octane (R+M/2). This version features Toyota's Dual VVT-i, variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust cams. Valves are driven by roller-follower rocker arms with low friction roller bearings, and a unique, concave cam lobe design to increase valve lift over the traditional shimless lifter type system of the 1GR-FE. This increases overall cylinder head height to accommodate the slightly taller roller rocker system. Moreover, the cylinder head is segmented into 3 parts: valve cover, camshaft sub-assembly housing, and cylinder head sub-assembly. As such, this valvetrain is used across all other GR engines with Dual VVT-i. Its service weight is 163 kg.

IS350:

2GR-FSE

2GR-FSE engine in the 2008 CrownThe 2GR-FSE engine used in the Lexus IS 350 incorporates Toyota's latest D4-S twin injection fuel system. This system combines direct injection with traditional port injection. Using direct injection and port injection simultaneously facilitates more precise mixing of air and fuel under low and medium load conditions for greater efficiency, while high load conditions dictate the use of direct injection alone for maximum power. The 2GR-FSE engine is rated at 315 PS (232 kW; 311 hp) at 6,400 RPM and 38.4 kg·m (377 N·m; 278 ft·lbf) at 4,800 RPM. The engine's service weight is 174 kg.

The 2GR-FSE was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Not smoking anything mate - its called sleep deprivation from having a 4 week old baby in the house!!! Thanks for your consideration!! :) You might want to check the hundred or so other posts Ive made on this forum and see how 'way off' I am!? I think it was pretty obvious I meant RIGHT hand drive. And of course the introduction of the 350 will relatively speaking bring more 250s onto the s/hand market than was initially expected, and WILL impact re-sale, esp. if Lexus also discount the IS250 once the 350 arrives, which is expected. Simple economics - supply n demand.

And if the demand is there, the 350s will keep coming. From all the statements coming from Lexus to date, I havent heard anything about limited production. The Toyota Motor Corporation are all about volume at the moment arent they?!

And yes the recent RX runout was a bit of a farce and the glut of old stock lasted nearly 12 months. These exact words coming from two dealerships (Melbourne and Blackburn). Guess both dealers must be "all way off" - as you put it.

Congratulaions on the baby Saphire....and yes that would explain you moving us all to the USA and driving LHD. :)

Again I am pretty sure that the IS250 RRP won't go down when the IS350 lands. The RX350 didn't go down when the RX400h was released.

And 2 dealers getting stuck with a bit of stock out of 23 nation wide isn't a farse. In NSW dealers were buying RX's in from other dealers to fill orders. Sure there were some attractive deals being offered and resale dipped for a bit but once they were all gone and the new model was a bit dearer, resale values bumped back up.

Anyhow what would I know......its sounds like you know whats going on.

Regardless the IS350 will be an absolute CRACKER. I'm sure we can agree on that.

Thanks for the well wishes - dis-lex-sic. Yes the IS350 will be a ripper, and if it wasn't for me heading back to one income for the time being, Id probably look into one! I'll be interested to see what 'sweeteners' they put into the vehicle for us. Surely it will be more than just a bigger donk. Any ideas from other forum members? What has anyone learnt about what the 350 is offering in addition to 250? What's the story in the US for example?

I hope they put the HUD(Heads up display) that is in the new RX Sports Luxury. It is probably the feature I like the most at the moment. After driving with it and then getting back into an IS you really miss it. So I hope it is added to the IS range.

Surely they will. Even the I-Tech Prius has it now.
